First Look at Bill Skarsgard in THE CROW Reboot
Lionsgate has released the first image from its upcoming reboot of The Crow, and it features Bill Skarsgård (It) in the lead role of Eric Draven. This The Crow reboot has been in development for several years and it’s been a project that has been plagued by setbacks. It’s gone through several different actors, directors, and studios over the years.
This version of the movie comes from director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell), and it also stars singer/actor FKA Twigs, Danny Huston (30 Days of Night), Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A Son), and Jordan Bolger (The Woman King).
In the film: “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.”
I’m curious about how this movie will turn out. The original is so good, and it has such a strong fanbase, a fanbase that believes this new movie shouldn’t have been made. Skarsgard, is a great actor, though, and I’m interested in seeing his performance and how he brings this character to life.
Check out the image of Skarsgard and a couple of other photos below and let us know what you think!
Lionsgate’s Executive VP Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Charlotte Koh said in a statement: “We appreciate what The Crow character and original movie mean to legions of fans and believe this new film will offer audiences an authentic and visceral reinterpretation of its emotional power and mythology. To work with a creative team led by Rupert’s unparalleled visual style and storytelling and with a producing team who have made some of the most popular and impactful films of the last several decades is a true privilege.”
The producers of the film said in a joint statement: “The original film left an indelible mark on our culture that lives on. We are thrilled to bring a new adaptation for today’s audiences that respects this legacy. Rupert has masterfully brought new dimensions to create a contemporary universe for this timeless saga of undying love, and we can’t wait to share this vision with film audiences.”
Producer Sam Pressman previously said: "The Crow has been a very central and integral part of our company and I'm really proud of the progress and the work that has been done. I think the movie is just going to blow people away. Our partners want to approach it in a very 360 way, whether it be video games, an animated series, or a universe, but it's got this cosmic legacy that can expand beyond a singular story."
Zach Baylin (King Richard) and Will Schneider wrote script, with the new movie of course based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel that spawned a previous film franchise.
The movie will be released on June 7th, 2024.
