First Reactions Pour in For Netflix's Live-Action ONE PIECE Series and Critics Are Loving It
The first reactions have started coming in for Netflix’s long-awaited live-action series adaptation of One Piece, and so far the people who have had the opportunity to watch it are loving it! It’s great to see because most of the live-action anime projects get completely bashed on, but I always thought this one looked like a good time, and that it captured the spirit of the anime.
Well, now the fans and critics who have had the chance to watch the show are confirming that! It’s said to do the “source material justice”, others say it’s “faithful”, “Excellent”, “Fresh”, “Fun”, and “so close to the anime.” These are all things that I’m happy to hear!
Check out some of the reactions below:
One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his pirate crew as they explore a fantastical world of endless oceans and exotic islands in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King.
The other main characters include Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson), and Sanji (Taz Skylar).
Steven Maeda is a co-writer, showrunner, and executive producer on the series along with Matt Owens, who is also co-writing and executive producing. The series also stars Morgan Davies (The Evil Dead) as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino (The Sex Lives of College Girls) as Alvida, Aidan Scott (Action Point) as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward (Hacks) as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III (Ozark) as Arlong, and Vincent Regan (Troy) as Garp.
The 10-episode series will be released on August 31st!
