Gary Oldman Claims the New James Bond Has Been Chosen as He Throws Support Behind Jack Lowden
The search for the next James Bond may already be over. At least, that’s what Gary Oldman seems to believe, and he’s hoping his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden ends up holding the keys to the Aston Martin.
While speaking with Canada’s Global, Oldman threw his support behind Lowden as the next 007 and suggested that the decision has already been made, even though Amazon MGM Studios hasn’t officially revealed its new Bond.
Oldman said: “It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
There’s some ambiguity in Oldman’s comments. He could be suggesting that Lowden himself has landed the role, or he may simply know that the producers have selected their new Bond and are keeping the actor’s identity under wraps for now.
Either way, Oldman certainly sounds convinced that a choice has been made. Reports over the summer claimed that auditions for the next James Bond were taking place in August, with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, along with director Denis Villeneuve, informing actors who had made the shortlist.
Several names have been connected to the role, including Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi, all of whom reportedly fit the kind of Bond that Amazon MGM Studios has been looking for.
Lowden would be an interesting choice. The Scottish actor has already shown in Slow Horses that he can handle espionage, action, dry humor, and characters who aren’t always the smoothest guys in the room.
Bond would obviously require a different kind of performance, but it isn’t difficult to picture him putting his own spin on 007.
If Oldman is right, one of Hollywood’s biggest casting mysteries may be sitting on an announcement that could come sooner rather than later. As for Lowden landing the role, Oldman has his fingers crossed.
