GEN V Star Asa Germann Cast as Angel in Marvel’s New X-MEN Movie
Marvel’s new X-Men movie has found its Angel, and the role is going to someone who already has plenty of experience playing a superpowered character.
Gen V star Asa Germann has joined the upcoming Marvel Studios film as Warren Worthington III, better known to comic book fans as Angel. The movie is being directed by Jake Schreier, who previously helmed Thunderbolts.
Germann is best known for playing Sam Riordan in Prime Video’s The Boys spinoff series, where his character possesses superhuman strength and durability. He also appeared in Scream 7 as one of Ghostface’s victims. Moving into the MCU as one of the original X-Men is a pretty cool next step.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Germann originally went after a different mutant role. He auditioned to play Cyclops, a part that ultimately went to Kit Connor. Marvel apparently liked what it saw from Germann enough to find another major character for him.
As the trade reports, “the Kevin Feige-led studio was impressed enough with Germann that they offered him the part of Warren Worthington III, aka Angel.”
Angel has been part of the X-Men from the very beginning and brings some interesting possibilities to the MCU, especially if Marvel decides to explore the darker chapters of his comic book history.
Angel was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and made his debut in the first issue of X-Men in 1963. Warren Worthington III was born with large feathered wings that allow him to fly, but his story eventually took a much darker turn.
After suffering devastating injuries that cost him his wings, the mutant villain Apocalypse transformed Warren by giving him deadly metal wings capable of firing razor-sharp projectiles.
Whether Schreier’s movie eventually takes Warren down the Archangel path remains to be seen, but Germann certainly has some meaty comic book material to work with.
He joins a strong group of actors playing Marvel’s next generation of mutants. Connor is Cyclops, Sadie Sink is Jean Grey, Christopher Abbott is Professor X, Samara Weaving is Emma Frost, Obsession breakout Inde Navarrette is Rogue, Maya Boyd is Storm, and Adam Driver will play Mr. Sinister.
The arrival of X-Men will mark Marvel Studios’ first standalone movie centered on the mutant team following the characters’ integration into the MCU, depending on how you want to classify Deadpool & Wolverine.
Marvel has been taking its time assembling this new version of the X-Men, and Germann feels like a solid choice for Angel.
X-Men is currently scheduled to fly into theaters on May 5, 2028.
