Gina Carano Hints at Return as Cara Dune in STAR WARS After Lucasfilm Meeting

The Star Wars franchise might not be done with Cara Dune just yet. With The Mandalorian universe expanding with the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, Gina Carano has stirred up speculation after revealing she recently reconnected with Lucasfilm leadership.

This is sure to have fans wondering if one of Din Djarin’s toughest allies could be gearing up for a return. Carano first stepped into the role of Cara Dune in The Mandalorian’s “Chapter 4: Sanctuary,” quickly becoming a fan-favorite.

A former Rebel Alliance shock trooper from Alderaan, Dune walked away from the aftermath of the Galactic Civil War and carved out a life as a mercenary. Her path eventually crossed with Din Djarin and Grogu, leading her to settle on Nevarro as a marshal under Greef Karga.

Plans were once in motion to give her a bigger spotlight with a spin-off series titled Rangers of the New Republic, but that project was scrapped following Carano’s controversial social media posts.

Lucasfilm cut ties with the actress after some controversial social media posts. What followed was a messy period that saw her career shift into smaller, direct-to-digital projects.

That chapter took a turn last year when Carano settled her lawsuit with Disney. At the time, Disney stated it looked forward to “identifying opportunities to work together,” now, it seems those conversations weren’t just corporate talk.

During an interview with Ariel Helwani, Carano opened up about how she’s been received in the industry since everything went down. She admitted she isn’t entirely sure where she stands but noted, “anybody in Hollywood, producers, directors, would come up to me and say 'They did you dirty.'”

More interestingly, she confirmed she’s already spoken with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau following the settlement. The conversation apparently happened over Zoom last summer and sounded surprisingly casual given the history.

"I’ve already had a conversation with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Really lovely. After we settled the lawsuit, we got on a Zoom call. It was really nice," Carano revealed.

"Dave Filoni taking over, CEO of Star Wars. And it’s like we didn’t even miss a beat and Jon Favreau was really funny. Got on the Zoom and he’s like 'So, where did we leave off?' And we hadn’t spoke for a while."

That quote alone paints a pretty interesting picture. There’s no official word that Cara Dune is coming back, and nothing suggests she’ll pop up in The Mandalorian and Grogu next month. Still, the fact that conversations are happening at all is something that didn’t seem possible not too long ago.

Lucasfilm’s current focus appears to be shifting toward theatrical releases rather than expanding Disney+ series, which could complicate where a character like Cara Dune might fit. But if there’s one thing Star Wars has proven time and time again, it’s that no character is ever truly off the table.

For now, it sounds like the door is open. Whether Carano actually walks back through it is a whole other story, but it’s definitely one fans will be keeping a close eye on.
