GODZILLA MINUS ZERO Is So Loud That a Viewer’s Smartwatch Issued Repeated Hearing Warnings

Godzilla is bringing some serious noise to theaters, and apparently, the King of the Monsters is loud enough to make your smartwatch worry about your hearing.

One viewer attending a screening of Godzilla Minus Zero received repeated warnings about dangerous noise levels, which should give fans an idea of just how intense this movie sounds in IMAX.

Content creator Patrick T, shared a screenshot of his smartwatch registering 90 decibels during the film, along with his enthusiastic reaction:

"Godzilla Minus Zero is the loudest movie I’ve ever heard in my entire life. This will be a reference title for testing theater setups. Unbelievable film, and the definition of FILMED FOR IMAX."

To put that into perspective, 90 decibels is comparable to standing near a lawnmower or a passing subway train. Hearing protection is generally recommended for prolonged exposure to noise above 80 decibels, so anyone with sensitive ears might want to bring some earplugs to the 135-minute monster movie.

Of course, if you're going to watch Godzilla throw down with other giant kaiju creatures on a massive IMAX screen, you probably expect the theater to shake a little. Just don't be surprised if your watch starts questioning your entertainment choices.

Godzilla Minus Zero isn't the only major movie this year to leave audiences talking about the volume. Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey also sparked complaints about its aggressive sound levels, particularly during IMAX screenings.

The Cyclops' scream and Poseidon's storm sequence reportedly pushed the volume to extreme levels, with some viewers claiming the Cyclops reached 120 decibels.

As for Godzilla Minus Zero, director Takashi Yamazaki is bringing King Ghidorah into the action, but he has made it clear that he doesn't want the sequel to become a "giant pro wrestling match" between two kaiju. He's aiming for something more than a massive monster brawl, even if the sound system gets a serious workout.

There's also the question of whether Yamazaki will return for another Godzilla adventure. The official trailer makes some pretty dramatic promises with "everything ends here" and "there will not be a third fight," but the filmmaker hasn't completely ruled out continuing the story.

He recently aid that he would "probably say yes" if Toho approached him about directing a third film. For now, Godzilla Minus Zero is shaping up to be a monster-sized theatrical experience that demands the biggest screen and a powerful sound system. Just know that Godzilla's roar might be powerful enough to make your ears bleed.

Godzilla Minus Zero hits theaters on November 6.
