GODZILLA MINUS ZERO Making-of Featurette Teases an Even Bigger Kaiju Nightmare

Godzilla is back to cause a lot more destruction, and it looks like Japan is in for another brutal fight for survival! Toho has released a final Japanese trailer/making-of featurette for director Takashi Yamazaki's highly anticipated sequel, Godzilla Minus Zero, giving fans a new look at the massive monster action along with footage from the production.

The promo features Yamazaki working on the film, along with interviews with the cast discussing their characters and their experiences bringing this next chapter to life. It also looks like Godzilla isn’t the only kaiju causing trouble this time around, which will make things even more interesting.

The sequel follows the incredible success of Godzilla Minus One, which earned an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and reminded everyone just how awesome a Godzilla movie can be when it delivers both terrifying monster action and a story worth caring about.

Set in 1949, two years after the events of the first film, Godzilla Minus Zero returns to a Japan still recovering from World War II, with American forces helping the country rebuild. Unfortunately, the people who survived Godzilla's previous attack are about to face another terrifying calamity.

Ryunosuke Kamiki reprises his role as Koichi Shikishima, with Minami Hamabe returning as Noriko Oishi, who miraculously survived the destruction of Tokyo in the previous film. The story continues following the Shikishima family as they find themselves caught in another deadly kaiju crisis.

The returning cast also includes Miou Tanaka, Sakura Ando, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Yamada, and Kuranosuke Sasaki.

Yamazaki is once again writing and directing the film while also overseeing its visual effects. He has already proven that he knows how to make Godzilla genuinely frightening, and I'm excited to see what he has come up with for this sequel, especially if other monsters are getting involved.

The film is produced by Kazuaki Kishida, with music composed by Naoki Satô. Toho Studios and Robot Communications are producing the sequel, which premiered at the 2026 New York Film Festival.

Godzilla Minus Zero is currently playing in Japanese theaters, and GKIDS will bring the film to U.S. theaters on November 6, 2026.

The first movie set an incredibly high bar, but Yamazaki is determined to give audiences an even bigger Godzilla experience. I'm especially curious to see how the Shikishima family's story continues and what kind of destruction awaits them.
