Hannah Waddingham Joins Jason Statham in David Leitch’s Meta Action-Comedy JASON STATHAM STOLE MY BIKE
Jason Statham is about to take on one of the strangest roles of his career, and now he’s got an incredible co-star joining him for the ride.
Hannah Waddingham has officially signed on to star opposite Statham in director David Leitch’s upcoming action-comedy Jason Statham Stole My Bike, which has been filming in the UK and Malta since June.
This is the first casting announcement for the film since the project was first revealed back in February, and it also reunites Waddingham with Leitch after the pair previously worked together on The Fall Guy.
Leitch and Statham already have a strong creative history as well. The filmmaker previously directed the action star in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw after making a name for himself with films like Deadpool 2 and Bullet Train. Now they're teaming up again for what sounds like one of the most entertainingly self-aware action movies in recent memory.
In the film, Statham will be playing a fictionalized version of himself, described as being "in the role of a lifetime, playing global action superstar Jason Statham." The film is expected to feature several large-scale action sequences while embracing a PG-13, tongue-in-cheek approach that matches its wonderfully ridiculous title.
While we don't yet know who Waddingham will be playing, she's a fantastic addition to the cast. She earned widespread acclaim for her performance in Ted Lasso, winning an Emmy, a SAG Award, two Critics Choice Awards, and earning two Golden Globe nominations.
Most recently, Waddingham has been starring in Amazon Prime Video's Ride or Die, a series she also executive produced alongside Octavia Spencer.
The screenplay for Jason Statham Stole My Bike was written by Alison Flierl, based on a story by Flierl and Scott Chernoff.
Black Bear is backing the project alongside 87North and is set to release the film in North America on August 6, 2027. The movie also marks another collaboration between Black Bear and Statham after they recently wrapped production on Guy Ritchie's Viva.
It's still early days, but Jason Statham Stole My Bike sounds like one of the more unique action-comedies on the horizon and I’m looking forward to watching it!
Between Leitch's knack for inventive action, Statham poking fun at his own action hero persona, and Waddingham joining the cast, this has all the ingredients to deliver something fresh and seriously fun.
