Harrison Ford Says His Underwear Scene in DIAL OF DESTINY Was His Idea
There’s a scene in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny where fans will have the pleasure of seeing Harrison Ford go shirtless and just wear his underwear. Well, it turns out that this was all Harrison Ford’s idea, I guess he wanted to show off his old man Indy body one final time. While speaking with Esquire, Ford explained that one of the big selling points of returning to the role of Indiana Jones was exploring an older Indiana Jones.
“Yeah. That’s why I wanted to do the movie. I wanted to know what happened to him and how he handled it. [Director James] Mangold and I worked closely together, on that scene especially. Waking up in my underwear with the empty glass in my hand was my idea. I wanted to see Indiana Jones at a nadir point and rebuild him from the ground up.”
Director James Mangold previously talked about what makes this iteration of the character so different and one thing he wanted to showcase in this movie was how the world has changed around the legendary archeologist. He said:
“The first three Indiana Jones movies took place in roughly the same period. They all easily fit with the serialized, theatrical, almost screwball-action style of the movies that were being released in the period they’re set in. The challenge for [director Steven Spielberg] on [Crystal Skull], and for me on this one, is: How do you move forward into new decades where the world is no longer seen in such clear demarcations of black and white and good and evil? Where the whole concept of raiding tombs and fighting over relics is looked at in a different way? It’s not about changing the story but allowing the character to experience how the world has changed around him.”
The movie is set in 1969 during the Space Race, with Indiana Jones being pulled into another grand adventure, which involves Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the Moon landing program, who wants to "rectify the world and make it into a better place as he sees fit." He’s looking to correct the mistakes that Hitler made when he was in power with the Dial of Destiney artifact.
The film comes from producer Steven Spielberg, and it also stars Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Shaunette Renée Wilson (The Resident), and Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age Of Ultron).
The film will open in theaters on June 30, 2023. Are you excited to see Indiana Jones in his underwear!?
