Henry Cavill on the Possibility of Playing James Bond - "Maybe I’m Too Old, Maybe I’m Not"
Henry Cavill actually gets to play the man who inspired James Bond in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming World War II action film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. But, Cavill still isn’t fully writing off playing 007 in the Bond franchise.
While a guest on The Rich Eisen Show, he opened up about his character, Gus March-Phillipps, in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and his relationship with author Ian Fleming.
Cavill said: "I’m sure Ian Fleming wrote James Bond with a lot of stories, a lot of characters in mind, but as I understand it, Gus March-Phillipps was one of the stronger influences.”
The actor is then asked if he could ever take on the 007 role in the long-running franchise, to which he replied: "I have no idea.”
He went on to say: "All I've got to go off is the rumors. The same information you have. Maybe I'm too old now, maybe I'm not. It's up to Barbara Broccoli and Mike Wilson and we'll see what their plans are."
It’s then pointed out, that he’s playing the guy Bond was based on, to which Cavil repsonded: "Yeah, it seems like a good first step right?"
It seems like he’s still holding our for hope. But you know what? He was awesome in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and I’d much rather see him continuing to play that character!
His version of Gus March-Phillipps is so much more colorful, fun, and interesting than James Bond! After playing that character it seems like Bond would be boring to play.
Cavill almost landed the role of Bond role 20 years ago when he went up for Casino Royale opposite Daniel Craig. Now, it’s looking like the character will be played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Cavill doesn’t need Bond, but if he did eventually get to play the character, the fans would be on board.
