Hollywood Insider Slams James Gunn Over His Social Media Habits - "This Guy Is the Most Annoying Studio Head"

James Gunn has built a reputation as one of the most recognizable names in the comic book movie world, thanks to his work on Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, Creature Commandos, and this summer’s Superman.

In 2023, Gunn took on an even bigger role as DC Studios co-CEO alongside producer Peter Safran, juggling his duties as a filmmaker with being the public face of DC’s new creative direction.

Unlike most studio heads, Gunn is extremely active online, frequently responding to fan questions and debunking rumors on platforms like Bluesky and Threads. While many fans appreciate the transparency, others, especially those who report industry “scoops”, see him as a bit too combative.

Recently, entertainment insider Jeff Sneider claimed that Robin will appear in The Batman: Part II. Gunn quickly shot down the story, calling it “nonsense” and insisting that only a few people had even read the script.

That prompted Sneider to fire back on his The Hot Mic podcast, not only doubling down on his claim but also unleashing a blistering critique of Gunn’s behavior.

"I don't give a f*** what James Gunn says anymore. This guy is the most annoying studio head I've ever heard of or met or seen, or anything. I don't think it's winning him any fans.

“I don't think it's winning him any fans on the Warner Bros. lot, where I know people find him and his antics to be annoying."

Sneider didn’t stop there.

"Bro, your movie is maybe, probably going to get to $600 million. Take that 'W,' if we want to call it [that], and shut up. Shut up, go focus on reading scripts and making movies and TV shows, because it seems you get paid a lot of money to spend a lot of time on Bluesky and Threads."

While Sneider’s scoops should be taken with caution, he does have a track record of accurate studio-level scoops. His remarks highlight a growing conversation around Gunn’s online presence, one that often sees him clapping back at critics while remaining silent on more sensitive topics.

For example, when trade outlets cast doubt on Gal Gadot’s comments about a potential Wonder Woman 3, Gunn said nothing, and only now is it clear she won’t return as Diana in the DCU.

To be fair, many of Gunn’s posts offer genuine behind the scenes insights into his creative process, and his openness is rare in the world of blockbuster filmmaking.

Still, with several projects like The Brave and the Bold, Wonder Woman, Clayface, and more on the horizon, some in the industry, and apparently on the Warner Bros. lot, think he should spend more time doing his job and stop wasting time on social media.
