Inde Navarrette Reacts to Landing the Role of Rogue in Marvel’s X-MEN Reboot
The MCU has found its Rogue, and Inde Navarrette sounds more than ready to put on the green and yellow costume.
The Obsession star recently commented on being cast as Anna Marie, better known as Rogue, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. Her response was short, but the excitement over joining one of Marvel’s biggest franchises came through loud and clear.
Heading into D23, we already knew Navarrette had met with X-Men director Jake Schreier, who previously directed Thunderbolts*. At the time, the actress said Mystique was her dream Marvel role, which now looks like a pretty effective bit of misdirection considering she had actually landed Rogue.
Fans have responded very positively to the casting. Rogue is one of the most powerful and interesting members of the X-Men, but the movies have never really explored everything that makes her such an awesome character.
Anna Paquin played Rogue throughout Fox’s original X-Men films, but that interpretation focused heavily on her teenage years, romances, and struggle with her powers.
We never really got the confident powerhouse from the comics who can fly into a fight and throw down with some of Marvel’s heaviest hitters. Hopefully, Navarrette finally gets the chance to bring that Rogue to the big screen.
While signing autographs for fans, Navarrette was asked about joining the MCU and playing the iconic mutant. She replied: "It's phenomenal. A huge honour. It's insane."
There’s certainly plenty for Marvel Studios to work with when building Rogue’s MCU story. Her comic book history connects her to Magneto, Gambit, Captain Marvel, Mystique, and plenty of other major Marvel characters.
She eventually becomes a leader of her own X-Men team as well, so this could be much more than a one-movie role for Navarrette.
The timing couldn’t be much better for the actress. Obsession has turned her into one of Hollywood’s hottest rising stars after passing $500 million at the worldwide box office this weekend.
That makes it the highest-grossing original movie of the decade, which is an incredible accomplishment for a film that arrived without an A-list cast carrying it.
That success is already opening some major doors for the people involved. Curry Barker has lined up Anything But Ghosts as his next movie, with a new take on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre potentially following.
Navarrette is moving straight into Marvel territory with X-Men, while Michael Johnston, who plays Bear in Obsession, is set to make his own blockbuster debut in the next Mummy movie.
Schreier will direct the untitled X-Men movie, with Kit Connor playing Scott Summers, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver is also joining the film as Nathaniel Milbury.
That gives Marvel a fresh group of mutants to build around as the X-Men finally become a major part of the MCU.
Rogue may be one of the most exciting characters in the bunch simply because there’s so much territory the previous movies left untouched. Give us the attitude, the strength, the complicated history, and eventually that wonderfully messy Gambit relationship.
Navarrette has a great opportunity to introduce movie audiences to a side of Rogue they’ve been waiting for a long time to see.
X-Men will be released exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028.
