INVINCIBLE Creator Robert Kirkman Teases the Return of Omni-Man in Season 2
Invincible Season 2 is set to return to Prime Video later this fall, and fans are very excited about seeing how the story continues to play out. At the end of the first season, Omni-Man beats the living hell out of his son Mark before leaving Earth. In the comic, it’s actually a long time before we see Omni-Man return to the story, but Robert Kirkman teases Omni-Man’s return in Season 2, so it could happen sooner than expected.
During a recent interview with IGN. Kirkman was asked about the return of Omni-Man, and he talked about what fans can expect without revealing any of the big details. He said:
"The less said about Nolan, I think the better at this point. I'll just say that I wouldn't wager that we'll go the entire season without seeing him. He'll probably crop up when you least expect it, and he may be popping up in ways that you wouldn't necessarily expect. So, I think I've said as much as I can say."
It’ll be interesting to see how exactly Kirkman and the creative team end up implementing Omni-Man in Season 2 of Invincible. They’re changing things up a bit, which I’m fine with because it’ll keep fans who have read the comic book on their toes.
One thing is for sure, the father and son relationship in the story is quite an epic saga and there’s still a lot of story to tell. Kirkman previously talked about his overall goals for the series and in the process revealed the planned number of seasons that he wants to make for the show to tell his story. He explained:
“I’m trying not to pin it down to a number, because it is somewhat of a moving target. I think in the seven-to-eight-season range seems like it would be enough. But there could be some things we move through a little faster, some things we expand. If we’re fortunate enough to go for a good long time, I think that would be enough to cover the entire comic. And there are some things along the way that didn’t get into the comic that I’d like to do. I think it’d be cool to have some episodes here and there that are completely original. So that’s part of the plan moving forward.”
Invincible revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who's just like every other guy his age — except his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). The ending of the first season was insane as it ended with Omni-Man's twisted true intentions being revealed. I’m excited to see how the story continues to play out in Season 2!
The series also stars Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Gillian Jacobs, Zachary Quinto, Jason Mantzoukas, Melise, Mark Hamill, Mahershala Ali, Seth Rogen, and more.
The second season of Invincible hits Amazon Prime on November 3rd of this year.
