IRON MAN Rumored To Return in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY For a Showdown With Doctor Doom
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe rumor mill continues to spin, word on the street is that Avengers: Doomsday might feature an Iron Man vs. Doctor Doom fight in its final act.
When Marvel Studios revealed that Downey would return to the MCU as Doctor Doom, it caught a lot of us off guard. The idea of the former Tony Stark stepping into the armor of Marvel’s most infamous villain was already a lot to process.
Not long after it was announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be playing Doctor Doom, I had a theory that they actor would also return to play Iron Man again in the story. Now a new rumor is saying that’s what we might actually see, setting up a face-off between two versions of himself.
According to insider MAJESTIC_ucm on X, the climactic battle in Avengers: Doomsday will include Iron Man throwing down with Doctor Doom.
Before anyone starts rewriting the ending of Avengers: Endgame, this reportedly wouldn’t be the Tony Stark who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2019. The Iron Man appearing in Doomsday is said to be a multiversal variant.
If true, that opens up some seriously fun possibilities. Watching Downey go head-to-head with Downey sounds like a spectacle Marvel fans would love to see!
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027.
For now, this Iron Man vs. Doctor Doom battle remains a rumor. But if Marvel really is building toward Downey fighting himself in a multiversal war, that’s the kind of comic book insanity the MCU was made for.
