James Gunn Clears the Air on the Jimmy Olsen DCU Series
James Gunn is stepping in to straighten out some confusion surrounding the recently reported Jimmy Olsen streaming series. If you’ve been wondering what’s real, what’s not, and what else Gunn is cooking up, here’s what we know.
Last week, reports claimed that DC Studios and HBO Max were developing a fictional true crime docuseries titled DC Crime, hosted by Jimmy Olsen played by Skyler Gisondo.
It’s a fun and pulpy concept that will offer a deep dive into Gorilla Grodd’s crimes, and it is being crafted by American Vandal creators Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, with Gunn and Peter Safran overseeing as executive producers.
Gunn later hopped on Threads to explain that while the series itself is real, the title that made the rounds is not. His post was crystal clear.
"Just FYI there has never been a project titled 'DC Crime' in development, not even as a working title. I don't know where that came from but it's weird."
He followed that with another detail to help sort things out, saying: "And no that doesn't mean all of the rest of the story is false."
Gunn also corrected the rumored release year, saying: "There are less than two months left and we haven't started shooting, so that's a definite no! (It's coming 2027.)"
He added that the mix up has already led to amusing real life encounters. "The story is from five days ago and I've had a few people come up to me IRL and say, 'I can't wait for DC Crime!' I was confused to say the least!"
So the show is very real. It just isn’t called DC Crime, and we won’t see it until 2027.
