James Gunn Doesn't Know if Dave Bautista Wants to Play Bane Anymore in the DCU
A few years ago, after it was announced that James Gunn was going to be leading the charge at DC Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista was very vocal about working with Gunn again, saying that he wanted to play Bane.
The actor has been very passionate about wanting to play Bane in a DC movie for years, and he even pitched the idea of him playing Bane to Warner Bros. and DC:
He said: "Oh, it would be Bane all day long. I've made no secret about this. I want to play Bane so bad I went to Warner Bros., had an appointment with them, had an appointment with DC, walked in the door and said, 'I want to play Bane.'
“I'm not kidding. They were a little like 'Woah, we're not even casting Bane.' I was like 'I don't care, I'm playing him.'"
Well, apparently things have changed. During a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn stated he doesn’t know “if Dave [Bautista] wants to be Bane anymore” in his new DC Universe. But, he still wants to work with him.
He said: “I don’t know if Dave wants to be Bane anymore, he used to want to be Bane. I think he would much rather be another character than Bane right now, I think that is probably the case.
“Of course, I love Dave and I wanna work with him again, but I am not sure he wants to be Bane anymore.”
As I’m sure you’ve seen, Bautista has slimmed down a lot and he’s looking to take on different kinds of movie roles.
He explained: “I feel unfulfilled as an actor. I have goals onto certain spaces. I want to be an A to Z actor. I want to be in every genre.
“There's still a few that I haven't gotten into, a few boxes I haven't checked. But also I haven't gotten that role that is just that deep, dramatic moving role. [That's what I'm] searching for, so I feel very unfulfilled.”
I’m sure that Bautista and Gunn will team up for another project again one day, we’ll just have to wait and see what it will be.
