James Gunn Reveals Our Best Look Yet at Jason Momoa’s Lobo in New SUPERGIRL TV Spot
James Gunn just gave DC fans exactly what they’ve been waiting for. A new Supergirl TV spot is here, and tucked inside it is our best look yet at Lobo.
“Finally.” That’s what Jason Momoa says in a newly released video when asked about stepping into the role. It’s a moment that feels earned. Momoa has been manifesting Lobo for years, and now it’s officially happening thanks to Supergirl.
Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios, shared the teaser himself, and there’s no mistaking what we’re seeing. The bike. The chain. The wild hair. The attitude. This is Lobo. Full stop.
He showed up briefly in the first Supergirl trailer, but this new footage actually lets the character land. Everything about the look feels right, and Momoa might just be the only actor who could awesomley pull this off.
The TV spot also expands things on the Supergirl side of the story. Milly Alcock stars as the Kryptonian survivor at the center of the film, which is inspired by the Woman of Tomorrow comic series.
In the story, Kara ends up helping a young woman travel across the universe in search of revenge for her father’s murder. Lobo doesn’t factor into that specific story, but the cosmic scope is packed with strange planets and bizarre alien characters, which makes him a natural fit.
What remains a mystery is how big Lobo’s role actually is. Is he just crashing the party for one movie, or is this the start of something much bigger? Once you put Momoa in full Lobo mode and drop him into your second major DC Universe film, it’s hard to imagine that being the end of it.
Lobo isn’t tied to Earth, and that makes him tricky to slot into every upcoming project, but it also opens the door for some seriously cool possibilities.
A standalone Lobo movie doesn’t sound far-fetched. Neither do recurring appearances across the DC cosmic side. Either way, it would be shocking if this was a one-and-done situation. Gunn doesn’t seem like the type to light this fuse and walk away.
We’ll get our first real taste of how this all plays out on June 26 when Supergirl arrives in theaters. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie and co-stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham.
