James Gunn Says Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Was Almost in the PEACEMAKER Season 2 Finale
The Peacemaker Season 2 finale could’ve included one of the wildest superhero crossovers ever. According to James Gunn, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool almost popped up in the DC Universe.
In a now-deleted interview with Deadline, Gunn admitted that he nearly pulled off a Marvel-meets-DC surprise in the final episode of Peacemaker Season 2. The director revealed:
“Yeah, I wanted them to open the door and see Deadpool in a room.”
Gunn says he actually reached out to Reynolds to make it happen, saying:
“I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it and we’d have had to go through some pretty, pretty big hoops to do that. He wanted to do it. That’s all anybody’s going to talk about now is f—— Deadpool in the other room.”
It’s hard to imagine a more wild scene than Peacemaker cracking open a door only to find Deadpool lounging inside, breaking the fourth wall while John Cena’s character stares in disbelief. Sadly, the cameo didn’t make it past the idea stage.
Gunn also took the chance to talk about the future of Peacemaker, confirming that a third season isn’t currently on the table.
“That doesn’t mean that there won’t be. I don’t want to never say never, but right now, no, this is about the future of the DCU. It’s an important character.”
The Season 2 finale, titled “Full Nelson,” premiered on October 10, 2025, wrapping up the show’s multiverse storyline and teasing where the DC Universe could head next. Reactions to the finale were mixed, and a lot of fans hated it.
But, the thought of Deadpool almost jumping into the madness for a brief moment would’ve been a lot of fun. It also would’ve cracked up the door to a big DC and Marvel crossover that fans have want to see happen for years.
