James Gunn Says That Working on SUPERMAN: LEGACY is Like "Being a Kid Again"

Superman: Legacy director James Gunn recently opened up about what it’s been like for him to make a new Superman movie. This is a project that a lot of DC fans are excited about, but there are also people who are still disappointed that Henry Cavill will not return as the Man of Steel.

I just think Gunn is a great filmmaker and storyteller and I’m confident in his ability to deliver an awesome Superman movie that fans will love. When asked on social media about what it is that makes him most excited about taking on Superman, the filmmaker said that the experience is “so different from anything I’ve ever done” and that “it’s like being a kid again.”

Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s “journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

There’s been a lot of reports, rumors, and speculation recently regarding the casting, but Gunn has yet to make any official announcement. However, he is narrowing it down and getting close.

Superman: Legacy is expected to enter production in early 2024 ahead of its scheduled theatrical release on July 11, 2025. It will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1, and that will be followed by The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl, Swamp Thing, and more.

I just hope that Gunn ends up making a Superman movie that makes all of us feel like a kid again.
