James Gunn Shares Classic SUPERMAN "S" Logo Photo Without Context
Filmmaker and Head of DC Studios James Gunn is pretty interactive with his fans. He likes to post photos and videos to social media that tease upcoming projects and get fans talking.
He is also pretty good about responding to fans who ask him questions on his pages. But he posted a photo this weekend in reference to his upcoming Superman movie that he hasn’t given any context to so far.
The photo is of a Superman “S” logo that first appeared on the Man of Steel’s chest on the cover of Action Comics #1, when he was first introduced, lifting a green car up over his head while his cape fluttered behind him.
This “S” logo was quickly phased out for a cooler, more distinct look, and it has changed many times over the years, but it’s interesting that Gunn posted this logo, especially since we know that his movie is not going to be an origin story, but a movie about an established Clark Kent/Superman. It does make me wonder if it’s going to take place in a different time period though…
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman; Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.
Superman is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
