James Mangold Once Again Confirms That He's Writing and Directing SWAMP THING for DC Studios

There have been multiple reports already about James Mangold developing a Swamp Thing movie for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios. The filmmaker previously confirmed his involvement with the project, but now he is talking about it for the first time and saying that he’s going to write and direct it.

The big question is, what will come first? Swamp Thing or the Star Wars project that was recently announced. He doesn’t know! Right now, he’s working on writing both of them simultaneously. We’ll just have to wait and see what ends up moving forward first. I guess it depends on what studio is ready to pull the trigger first. He said in the video below:

“We’ll see what comes to fruition first. The truth is I’m writing both right now and who knows what’s going to happen and what’s going to blossom first or second … I’m acknowledging I’m doing Swamp Thing … It’s not a rumor, it’s happening. “

James Gunn also shared a tweet confirming the news as well saying: “Of course when we started charting the course for the DCU one of the first people I talked to was the super talented James Mangold about writing and directing his passion project Swamp Thing.”

Mangold is a big fan of Swamp Thing, and this has been a film project that he’s been chasing for a while. Gunn previously said of the film project: “Because we want to point out that these stories, although they're interconnected, they're not all totally the same. So each set of filmmakers brings their own aesthetic to these films. And the fun is seeing how these totally different works will mash-up in the future. So it investigates the dark origins of swamp thing So, totally very different than Superman or Batman or Robin etc.”

It was also explained that the character will also interact with the mainstream DC characters. The DC Universe’s first phase, Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature several different movies and television shows. A few of the announced projects include Superman: Legacy, a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows.
