James Mangold's STAR WARS Film Will Explore How The Force Was Discovered

Earlier today it was announced that James Mangold (Logan, Ford v Ferarri) is going to direct a Star Wars movie, and that’s something that fans were pretty stoked to hear! It was initially revealed that his movie would go back to the dawn of the Jedi, we’ve now got some fascinating and exciting new details to share!

During an interview with CB, Mangold shared some additional information on the kind of Star Wars film that he’s making and reveals that it will explore how The Force was discovered! He said:

"It just came from me thinking about if I were doing one, it seemed to me that most of what they were thinking about doing with movies were either in the present of Star Wars or the future, and what attracted me most was the distant past and how this galaxy formed and how, more specifically, the Force was discovered."

This is so cool and so interesting to me. I’ve honestly always wondered if Lucasfilm would ever really explore this in great depth, and now it’s going to happen! I’m also curious about what kind of character would lead this kind of story, and that character is someone who Mangold is currently creating. He said:

"First you have to write the character and that's what I'm doing right now."

Mangold was actually initially attached to directing a Boba Fett movie a few years ago, but that ended up falling apart, which is probably for the better. This new project he’s working on is so much more interesting!

What we do know about the early history of The Force was that in “36,453 BBY, philosophers and scientists from several Star systems gathered on Tython to share mystical knowledge. The Force was ‘discovered.’ Unfortunately, in 25,793 BBY, several Tythan scholars began using their knowledge of the Force to pursue power, leading to the beginning of the Force Wars. Peace-minded monks that survived the destruction on Tython established the Jedi Order in 25,783 BBY.”

I can’t wait to see what Mangold ends up doing with this movie!
