James Wan's CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON Enlists STAR TREK: PICARD Writer

James Wan has brought in a writer to develop the script for his reboot of Creature of the Black Lagoon for Universal Pictures.

The script will be written by Sean Tretta, who previously worked on shows such as Mayans M.C. and Star Trek: Picard. That script will be based off a treatment written by Wan, Rafael Jordan and Bryan Coyne.

This version of the classic story is said to be a “grounded modernized retelling that leans into visceral horror whilst paying respect to the original classic.”

Creature from the Black Lagoon was released in 1954 and the story follows a group of scientists who discover a prehistoric, amphibious humanoid creature in the Amazon jungle.

While exploring a remote lagoon, the team, led by Dr. David Reed, becomes fascinated by the creature, dubbed the Gill-man. As they attempt to capture and study it, the creature turns aggressive, feeling threatened by the intruders in its territory.

The scientists find themselves having to fight for survival against the creature's wrath.

Wan is also producing the film under his Atomic Monster banner with Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Judson Scott executive producing.
