Jason Blum Wants to Recruit GODZILLA MINUS ONE Director Takashi Yamazaki to Helm a Blumhouse Movie
Not only was Godzilla Minus One a great movie and a huge box office success, but it also put writer and director Takashi Yamazaki on Hollywood’s radar. The guy made an incredible film and there’s no doubt that every big studio in Hollywood is going to want to meet with him for potential film projects. I have no doubt he’s already met with a few of them.
Producer Jason Blum of Blumhouse was a huge fan of Godzilla Minus One, and in a recent interview, he expressed his desire to recruit Yamazaki to direct one of their films. He had this to say at a recent event:
"Out of all the movies I saw last year, the movie I liked the most was Godzilla [Minus One]. It's a really amazing movie that made me so jealous. At the heart of every one of our movies is a unique, compelling family drama. What I loved about Godzilla was its unusual family dynamic... Their relationship was like something I've never seen before."
The producer went on to reveal that he had a meeting scheduled with Yamazaki in the near future, and said:
"I'm going to meet with the director. With any luck, I'll be able to talk him into making a Blumhouse movie."
The big question is… what is the movie that Yamazaki would make for Blumhouse? Does Blum have a project in mind for him, or will Yamazaki be able to pitch his own ideas for a movie that he’d like to make there?
Blumhouse Productions makes its films on modest budgets, and considering Yamazaki's team made Godzilla Minus One with roughly $10 million USD, the filmmaker knows how to make a great film on a small budget and keeping a high quality.
Yamazaki is going to be bombarded with directing offers and he’s going to end up being a very busy guy. I just hope that he does eventually come back to make the sequel to Godzilla Minus One, which will eventually happen.
