Jeremy Renner Addresses Robert Downey Jr. Playing Doctor Doom and His Own Return To Marvel

It turns out that Jeremy Renner had no idea that Robert Downey Jr. was going to be playing Doctor Doom in the MCU. While they are close friends, Downey Jr. didn’t say anything to anyone in the Marvel friend group about coming back for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

During a recent interview with US Weekly, Renner said that he was blindsided by the announcement, saying: “No! I had no idea. The son of a bitch didn’t say anything to me. We’re good friends.

“There’s the Avengers family chat. The original six. He said not a peep. I got online and started blowing up his phone like, ‘What’s going on? You’ve been hiding this from us the whole time?’

“It’s exciting news. I’m really, really excited about it.”

A lot of fans are excited about it as well, but there are also a lot of fans who aren’t too sure about it as it’s confusing to some. The thing is, I’m sure directors Joe and Anthony Russo have figured out a great way to tell this story and make his casting make sense.

Renner then went on to talk about his future in the MCU and the possibility that he will return for these next two Marvel Movies and find himself facing off against Downey’s Doctor Doom.

The actor said: “You got Downey back in the mix, you got the Russo Brothers back in the mix. This is a direction where Marvel is going to do well.

“The Avengers movies have always been fan favorites and there’s so many wonderful characters in them. It’s going to be challenging to get everyone together. But I am excited about it.

“We’ll see. I think we’ll probably be doing it. It’s all brand new. They just made the announcement. They got to start figuring it out.”

It’s going to be really interesting to see how things play out in the MCU now that we have an idea of where things are headed with Doctor Doom.
