J.K. Simmons Reveals He and Tom Holland Have Never Met Despite Making Two SPIDER-MAN Movies Together

One of the funniest things about modern blockbuster filmmaking is how often actors can appear in the same movie without ever crossing paths.

That's exactly what happened with J.K. Simmons and Tom Holland, who both appeared in two Spider-Man movies together but have somehow never actually met.

It's a surprising bit of Marvel trivia that Simmons recently shared while reflecting on his return as the unforgettable J. Jonah Jameson.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked Simmons if he had ever shared a scene with Holland. He responded, "No. Delightful guy, I’m told."

Horowitz couldn't help but laugh at how strange that is, replying: "I’ve spent more time with Tom Holland than you. This is wrong." Simmons agreed with the absurdity of it all, saying: "Yeah, it is. It totally is. Yeah."

Considering Simmons reprised Jameson in both Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home, you'd naturally assume the two actors would've crossed paths at some point. But thanks to the way Marvel filmed Simmons' appearances, it simply never happened.

The actor also opened up about how his return as the loudmouth Daily Bugle editor came together, revealing it happened incredibly late in production.

According to Simmons, Marvel reached out while Far From Home was already being edited. "They literally called my agent, we had a meeting the next day, and it was like a day or two later [that] I was shooting in somebody’s office."

Because there wasn't even a proper set built for the cameo, Simmons explained that the scene was filmed in "some executive’s office on the lot" because "there was no set."

One phone call, one meeting, and suddenly one of the most beloved casting choices in superhero movie history was back on screen. Simmons originally made such an unforgettable impression as Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy that bringing him back for the MCU felt like the perfect full-circle moment.

As for whether fans can expect to see Jameson stirring up more trouble in the next Spider-Man movie, it doesn't sound like that's happening. Simmons has already shut down rumors that he'll appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

When previously asked about the project by ComicBook, he answered simply: "Not in it, dude."

Of course, Marvel is famous for keeping secrets, so fans will probably continue to speculate until the movie arrives. Still, Simmons seems pretty confident that Jameson won't be making an appearance this time around.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently scheduled to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.
