Joaquin Phoenix Will Make $20 Million for JOKER 2
Writer and director Todd Phillips has been hard at work developing Joker 2, the working title of which is Joker: Folie à Deux. The filmmaker previously shared a photo of the script cover and another photo of Joaquin Phoenix reading it.
As you know, the first film did extremely well at the box office, pulling in over a billion dollars. Phoenix was paid $4.4 million to star in that movie and as you might imagine, he’s getting a huge pay raise for the sequel!
Variety recently published a profile on the Hollywood star they’ve revealed that he will make $20 million for Joker 2: "The same holds true for Joaquin Phoenix. When he first portrayed Gotham's most infamous villain in 2019's Joker, Phoenix earned $4.5 million. The film went on to earn more than $1 billion and landed the actor an Oscar. If Warner Bros. is going to get Phoenix back in clown makeup, it will cost the studio $20 million."
It makes sense that he would make that kind of for the sequel. After all, he made the studio a ton of money. While no plot details for the sequel have been shared, the title offers a little insight as it translates as “shared madness,” folie à deux is a layman’s term for shared delusional disorder.
Lady Gaga is in talks to play Harley Quinn in the movie and it’s said to be a musical, so that should be interesting!
When previously talking about how he would handle a sequel to Joker, Phillips said: “It couldn’t just be this wild and crazy movie about the ‘Clown Prince of Crime’. It would have to have some thematic resonance in a similar way that this does. Because I think that’s ultimately why the movie connected, it’s what’s going on underneath. So many movies are about the spark, and this is about the powder. If you could capture that again in a real way, that would be interesting.”
Do you think Phoenix is worth the $20 to play Joker again?
