John Cena Seems Totally in the Dark About Peacemaker’s MAN OF TOMORROW Connection
John Cena apparently has no idea what James Gunn is cooking up with Peacemaker and Man of Tomorrow, which is pretty wild considering where the character was left at the end of Season 2. Then there’s the fact Man of Tomorrow has wrapped shooting,
Gunn has very much indicated that Peacemaker Season 2 connects directly to Man of Tomorrow, but when Cena was recently confronted with that information, he seemed genuinely caught off guard.
His reaction now raises a pretty big question: Does Peacemaker actually have a role in the upcoming DCU movie, or is Gunn keeping something major from one of his closest collaborators?
During an interview with ScreenRant, Cena was told that Gunn had recently discussed the connection between Peacemaker and Man of Tomorrow. Cena immediately wanted to know when that happened, saying: “What the? And I need to know. When did he say this?”
After learning Gunn's comments were recent, Cena was asked whether that meant fans should expect Christopher Smith to appear in the movie. His response made the situation even more interesting.
“So, I know James personally. Like, great friend. We still text back and forth the merman emoji from Peacemaker. Because it’s all inclusive. You said he said this very recently.
“Unless it was five minutes ago, I haven’t heard it. And I’m pretty up to snuff on what James says, both in public and in private. And I don’t know anything about that. I would know nothing about that.”
Either Cena legitimately hasn’t been told what Gunn has planned, or he's doing a damn good job of keeping a DCU secret under control.
The bigger clue comes from Salvation, the metahuman prison dimension introduced during Peacemaker Season 2. Gunn has already described Salvation as “an incredibly important thing” for the future of the DCU, and the season ended with Cena's Christopher Smith stranded there.
Then things get even more curious when looking at Gunn's Man of Tomorrow wrap photos. The images feature a wooded lakeside location that looks remarkably similar to the environment established for Salvation. Nicholas Hoult, who plays Lex Luthor, also appears to be diving into the lake in the photos.
That certainly doesn't confirm Peacemaker will appear in Man of Tomorrow, but it's easy to understand why fans are connecting the dots. Salvation clearly has a future beyond Peacemaker, and Christopher Smith happens to be stuck right in the middle of it.
Cena's reaction could be completely genuine. Gunn may simply be keeping certain pieces of Man of Tomorrow compartmentalized until they're needed, but Cena would know if he’s in the movie since it’s already wrapped.
Of course, Cena could also know exactly what's happening and isn't about to spoil one of the movie's surprises during an interview.
Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. Whether Peacemaker joins the action remains a mystery, but with Salvation positioned as an important part of the DCU's future, Christopher Smith's current predicament is far from finished.
