John Krasinski Says He Was "Honored" to Play Reed Richards in DOCTOR STRANGE 2, But There's No Talks to Continue
Fans were blown away by the scene in Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness where we were introduced to some superheroes from an alternate universe, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, who returned as an alternate universe Mordo, Anson Mount as King Blackagar Boltagon, Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, who we knew from the X-Men universe, Haley Atwell as Captain Carter, and John Krasinski as Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic.
Krasinski had been fan-cast in this role for years, so it felt like a bittersweet moment when the alternate universe version of him showed up, and then met his untimely demise on the screen! Because many alternate universe versions of the superheroes exist in the same form on our earth, fans have wondered since that movie if we would see Krasinski back in the role in the future of the MCU.
Krasinski was recently asked by The Wrap if he had had any talks with Marvel since appearing in the role, and he said:
“There aren’t any discussions at all, the only discussion I had was actually in the second-to-last week of ‘Jack Ryan.’ Kevin Feige called and said would you ever fly to L.A. and play in our sandbox for a day? I was honored to do it. I flew right from Budapest when we wrapped and went right to the ‘Doctor Strange’ set. I’m a big fan of all those characters and that world, so to get to play in that sandbox for one day was a real thrill.”
That’s a bummer! But maybe he’s throwing us off the scent? It’s not like he could tell the truth, but he does sound pretty firm about his answer. He went on to add:
“It’s totally insane. To be in a room with all those people, and again to be a part of that narrative is crazy. But yeah, being turned into spaghetti wasn’t my end goal in life as far as how it goes in the Marvel universe, but you know what it was fun nonetheless.”
WandaVision director Matt Shakman is onboard to direct Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot, and no word has been released as far as its cast is concerned. Marvel has given it a release date of February 14, 2025, so we still have a ways to go. And who knows, with so much time, maybe Marvel will get around to having that talk with Krasinski after all.
