JOHN WICK Director Chad Stahelski Addresses JOHN WICK 5 and the Future of the Franchise
The John Wick action film franchise is still going strong and fans are extremely pumped up for the release of John Wick: Chapter 4. I don’t know anyone that wants to see this franchise end because it’s just so much damn fun to watch! So, what does the future hold for John Wick?
In a recent interview with Collider, director Chad Stahelski was asked about the fugture of the franchise, specifically about John Wick: Chapter 5. This was his response:
“[As of right] now it is the studio's [full] intention to continue the franchise. And look, I'm not going to we've all seen directors and producers where they go, ‘Yes. I don't know. I guess I'll do five,’ or it's like, ‘Oh, yeah, yeah.’ And I'm just, ‘Look, man. 'John Wick 1' was a goof. We made it as a fun little action movie that we'd like to see.’ And the fact that now nine years later, it's changed our lives. It changed my life. It changed Keanu's life. It's changed a lot of other people's lives. And people still want to see more.”
Stahelski also says how "fucking flattering" it is to see the success of the franchise, but also loves how people just want to keep seeing more from it. "I am the luckiest dude out there. The fact that fans still want to see more, the fact that we still want to make more is a testament."
When previously talking about how much longer he would play John Wick, Keanu Reeves said, "As far as my legs can take me. As far as the audience wants to go." Then Ian McShane said that he thinks the franchise could go another ten years.
Stahelski previously said that he could make these John Wick films for the rest of his career and that he and Reeves have a ton of ideas!
“I enjoy making these movies because there’s no limit. We create our own mythology, and we have a studio that both stays out of our way and supports us on the wacky decisions. If people go see the movie, and it makes money, and they came back to us, Keanu and I have ideas for days. I could live here for the rest of my career. If people like it and want to watch more, I could think of way worse ways to spend your career. But, you know, we’re in the entertainment business. We’ll let the audience figure that out.”
Hey, as long as they keep making these John Wick films, I’ll keep showing up to watch them!
