Jon Bernthal Set to Play The Punisher Again in Marvel's DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN!
For those Marvel fans who have been hoping to see Jon Bernthal return to play Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, you’ll be happy to hear that he is set to reprise the role in Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again! I wasn’t sure if we’d see Bernthal as The Punisher again, so this is pretty awesome news to learn!
Bernthal joins Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the series, which starts shooting in New York this month. It’s going to be really interesting to see what this series ends up being and if these characters are going to be the same for the Netflix shows or different. I think it’ll be a little bit of both, but I do hope that it carries over the dark grittiness of those Netflix projects.
The version of Daredevil that we saw in Spider-Man: No Way Home was very much in line with the Netflix version of the character. But, the Daredevil in She-Hulk felt different. During a previous interview, Charlie Cox offered some insight on what we can expect from his character saying:
"I don't think it's a different character. I just think it's maybe a different period of his life. I don't think my interpretation will change -- they hired the same actor. We're saying this is a whole new… era, or variant? I haven't read the scripts, so I don't know. But like, it's part of the multiverse?"
So, if this is the case, I imagine that will be the same with every character from the Netflix shows that carry over to the MCU. At the same time, Cox previously shared that the series will be “a whole new thing” saying:
“I think that the sense is it is a new beginning, it is going to be different, it is going to be totally different. It is going to be new stories, and new ideas. It is a Season 1, it is not Season 4, so it is a whole new thing. Which I think is the way to go. If you are going to do it again, do it differently.”
One thing we do know for sure is that Daredevil: Born Again will be the biggest Marvel project on Disney+ so far as it will consist of 18 episodes. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, who played classic supporting characters Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, will be involved with the show.
