Jon Bernthal’s Punisher Role in DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Will Be Bigger in Season 2
I’ve been curious about Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle / Punisher story arc in Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again series and how that will play out.
We know that Punisher is going to show up in the first season, but according to a new report, we’ve learned that his role in the story will be much bigger in Season 2.
During a Q&A session with questions from the members of The Cosmic Circus Discord, industry scooper Alex Perez shared that the Punisher would feature more prominently in Season 2 of the Marvel series.
It was explained that the Punisher and the villain Bullseye will “show up in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.” He then elaborated, “But as I understand it, Punisher’s role will be explored more in the 2nd season than the first because the show feels more like a setup for his story to continue in the next season from what was described to me.”
I hope that this all leads to a continuation of the solo Punisher series because I would love to see his story in the MCU continue beyond Daredevil.
Bernthal previously talked about the series, saying: "I think if you're a fan of the show that you saw before, you're gonna be a fan of this. I think we're just taking it a step further.
“We're all here, we're all enormously happy to be with each other, we're proud of what we did. If you're a fan of [Marvel's Daredevil], you're gonna be enormously happy."
Marvel's Head of Television, Streaming, and Animated producer Brad Winderbaum, previously talked about the series saying it will feature a whole new "political" angle to Daredevil and Kingpin's arch-rivalry.
Winderbaum compared the show to X-Men ‘97: "Daredevil is incredible. It's similar in some ways to X-Men '97 because it's reviving something that the fans love. But it's taking it in a new direction.”
He went on to tease how things have changed, saying: "These characters have matured, the universe is different than it was. Things have changed, society's changed. Matt and Wilson have changed.
“And their characters are gonna collide in ways we've never seen before. It's no longer enough to try to murder each other. There's a whole game of politics at play."
The new series is reportedly inspired by the Devil's Reign storyline, which explores the power dynamics between Kingpin and the vigilantes who stand up against him. The story revolves around the power struggle between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, who becomes the Mayor of New York City.
Daredevil: Born Again is developed by directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who worked on both Moon Knight and Loki.
