Jon Hamm Almost Starred in David Fincher's GONE GIRL
It turns out that Jon Hamm was originally supposed to star in David Fincher’s 2014 thriller Gone Girl. He was supposed to play the character that Ben Affleck played, he was actually the director’s first choice for the role!
So, what happened? Why didn’t Hamm star in the film? The actor explained in an interview with Watch What Happens Live, that it was all because of his Mad Men shooting schedule. There was just no room in that schedule for him to get away and shoot the film.
Hamm said: "I was down to the very end of [Gone Girl]. It was meant to be me, but we had to film the continuing adventures of Mr. Draper.” So, Fincher had to find another actor to take on the role, and that led to the casting of Ben Affleck.
I’d be interested to see Hamm in that role and while I’m sure he would have been great, Affleck really was perfect for that role and he delivered one of the best performances of his career.
In the film, “former New York-based writer Nick Dunne (Affleck) and his glamorous wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) present a portrait of a blissful marriage to the public. However, when Amy goes missing on the couple's fifth wedding anniversary, Nick becomes the prime suspect in her disappearance. The resulting police pressure and media frenzy cause the Dunnes' image of a happy union to crumble, leading to tantalizing questions about who Nick and Amy truly are.”
As for what Hamm is up to these days, he’s currently set to star in a sequel to Confess, Fletch, which is in early development, with writer and director Greg Mottola. He’s also set to appear in Good Omens Season 2 and the upcoming film Maggie Moore(s).
