Jude Law Offers Insight into His Mysterious "Jedi" Character in STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW
The third episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew dropped this week, and it introduced us to Jude Law’s mysterious “Jedi” character who goes by three names that include, Jod Na Nawood, Captain Silvo, and Crimson Jack.
He is clearly a swashbuckling scoundrel who has a mysterious past that will be revealed before the end of the season. There’s still a lot that we don’t know about the character, and one of the big questions is… is he really a Jedi?
We don’t know if he’s pretending to be a Jedi, if he actually was a Jedi at one time, or is just a Force-sensitive guy that knows how to pull off little Jedi tricks.
Law offered some insight into his character in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying: “Well, it kind of comes with the territory. I knew I was going to have to be cagey anyway. And what I loved about him was, he's full of contradictions.
“You don't ever quite know who he is or what he's capable of because he's sort of got all these facets and faces and names, and I mean if I would've used one word, I would say he's a survivor, right? And quick-witted and nimble. But is he a threat? You'll have to wait and see.”
Law went on to tease that his character does have The Force, explaining: “That doesn’t really come out until right near the end when you really get an insight into his backstory and why he may be a Force user and is Force-sensitive.
“And it was a detail that was always there, but [creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford] and I really went back and made sure we were all on the same page as to where he was born and what happened.”
When talking about his past, Law said: “And it’s kind of interesting, but a very revealing page in his past, I would say is that he’s not someone who’s had a childhood . He’s someone who’s kind of had his childhood snatched away from him, and it’s why he looks at the kids sort of with disdain.
“They’re just small adults. Why don’t they understand they’ve got to get on and survive? And why are they so inexperienced? He has no real concept of innocence.”
When talking about the character’s motivation, the actor said: '“Initially, it was simply to get out of jail. Right then, it was get off that planet, and if you've got a spaceship, you can go anywhere if it's fueled and you know how to use it.
“So for him, it's always a sort of one step at a time. And, of course, there is always this hint of these credits and this mysterious place that no one really thinks is real where they're saying they come from.
“So just sniffing that out and really finding out whether that's a plausible line is really what's on his mind at the moment.”
I’ve been enjoying Skeleton Crew! It’s a fun and silly Star Wars show, and it will be interesting to see how Crimson Jack’s story arc continues to unfold as the series plays out.
