Justin Lin Is Teaming Up with Keanu Reeves for Netflix’s BRZRKR Film Adaptation
Fast & Furious veteran Justin Lin is stepping into the brutal, blood-soaked world of BRZRKR, Keanu Reeves’ hit comic book series, which is being adapted into a live-action film for Netflix.
Lin will direct and produce the film, reuniting with Reeves, who not only stars in the film but also serves as a producer alongside Stephen Christy (Boom! Studios), Stephen Hamel (Company Films), and Ross Richie.
The project marks another collaboration between Lin and Reeves, who recently supported the director’s indie drama Last Days, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year. Now, the duo is diving into the violent and epic saga of BRZRKR, scripted by The Batman 2 co-writer Mattson Tomlin.
According to Netflix the story is described as a “brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages. The man known only as ‘B’ is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence, even at the sacrifice of his sanity.
“But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge — working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires — the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence … and how to end it.”
Reeves originally created the concept and story, collaborating with artist Ron Garney and Eisner-nominated writer Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT). The comic’s first issue became one of the best-selling in a decade, moving over 600,000 copies, with the series as a whole surpassing 3.5 million copies worldwide across single issues, collected editions, and specials.
The BRZRKR universe is expanding beyond film. A novel titled The Book of Elsewhere, co-written by Reeves and China Miéville, became a New York Times bestseller in 2024.
An anime spinoff, penned by Tomlin, is also in the works, with merchandising handled by brand developer IMG. Adam Yoelin is executive producing for Boom! Studios.
