Kathleen Kennedy is Looking To Release a STAR WARS Movie Every Three or Four Years

Lucasfilm seems to have had a rough time figuring out its Star Wars movie situation since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released in 2019. So many projects have been announced over the years and nothing has been made.

After Disney bought Lucasfilm, the original plan was to release two to three Star Wars movies a year. Well, a lot has changed since those ambitious and exciting days when the future of Star Wars movies seemed bright. In recent years the focus of Star Wars has been put on developing shows for Disney+ and fans have been enjoying those! Especially The Mandalorian and Andor.

Now Lucasfilm has new movie plans, and they are now looking at releasing a Star Wars movie every three to four years. Kennedy explained in an interview with Empire:

“I’ve often brought up Bond. That’s every three or four years and there wasn’t this pressure to feel like you had to have a movie every year. I feel that was very important to Star Wars. We have to eventise this. It’s much better to tell the truth, that we’re going to make these movies when they’re ready to be made, and release them when they’re ready to be released.”

I’m actually on board with this plan because there’s a better chance that we’ll get better-quality films because of it. James Cameron takes the time he needs to make his Avatar movies, and that last film turned out incredible! Marvel Studios is turning out three to four Marvel films a year and a bunch of shows, and the quality of those films suffer because they are being rushed.

With Lucasfilm actually taking the time to develop these projects, hopefully they are able to get the stories and scripts for these projects in a strong place. There’s no excuse now because they have to do it right.

The Star Wars projects currently in development include James Mangold's film about the discovery of the Force, set 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga. Dave Filoni will continue the Mando-verse era with a big event movie that will conclude the story he started telling years ago. There’s also the Daisy Ridley Rey Skywalker project, and Taika Waititi’s project.

What do you think about Lucasfilm looking to release one Star Wars film every three to four years? It’s not like we’ll be deprived os Star Wars because of the shows that will continue to be produced over the years.
