Ke Huy Quan Would Love To Reprise His Role as Short Round in INDIANA JONES Spinoff Series
A couple of months ago it was reported that Lucasfilm was looking at developing an Indiana Jones series for Disney+. Lucasfilm and Disney have been meeting with writers and taking pitches for a possible show set in the world of the globe-trotting archaeologist, but no details have been shared on what the show might entail.
Not long after that news broke, I wrote an article on how the only acceptable Indiana Jones spinoff series that doesn’t include Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones would have to involve Ke Huy Quan’s Short Round, who was introduced in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. This is something all of the fans would get behind!
Now, Quan is saying that he’d love to be a part of it! During a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Quan was asked about it, and this is what he said:
"First of all, I love the character Short Round, he is so awesome. He's funny, he's courageous, he saves Indy's ass, and if Disney or Lucasfilm ever comes to me, 'We want to do a Short Round spinoff,' I'm there, man. I love that character so much and I loved that experience so much and it would just be incredible to revisit that character many years later."
It would be incredible! There’s so much to explore with this character and it would be so damn fun to see him following in Indy’s footsteps as an archaeologist! If Disney and Lucasfilm don’t take the series in this direction, they’d be stupid.
As far as what his character might have gotten up to in the years since audiences met him, the actor joked, "I have no idea. Your guess is as good as mine, but because he looks up to Indy so much, I would not be surprised if he ended up being an archaeologist."
The character was explored further in the 1980s Marvel Comics series, The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones. In the comic, he accompanied Indiana on an expedition in the Caribbean sea hoping to find Atlantis, where he ended up rescuing Indiana during a pirate attack. He then returned to boarding school.
Then in 2008, The Lost Journal of Indiana Jones was published, and it says that Short Round actually did become an archaeologist like his mentor, and even went on a journey to track down the Peacock’s Eye, which was the diamond Indy lost at the beginning of The Temple of Doom.
Stay tuned for details on the future of the Indiana Jones franchise. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to hit theaters on June 30th.
