Kevin Feige Discusses Why Kang Is a "New Kind of Big Bad" in ANT-MAN: AND THE WASP QUANTUMANIA

Marvel Studios has released a new image featuring Jonathan Majors in the role of Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. The last trailer for the movie offered some more insight into this villain and his motivations in the story, and it’s going to kick off his epic story arc in the MCU that will lead to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

While speaking to Empire, Kevin Feige talks about introducing Kang to the MCU and how the character allows the creative team to play with a “new kind of Big Bad.” He also explains what exactly he needs Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant-Man, to help him with:

“He is the obvious choice as you’re dealing with the Multiverse. Kang allowed us to do a new kind of Big Bad. He’s a different type of villain, warring amongst themselves as much as he’s warring with our heroes. Kang’s a very powerful person, but when we meet him he’s in a position where he needs to get that power back. He has a ship and a device that would allow him to go anywhere, and anywhen he wants if he can get it online. If only he had access to genius scientists with Pym particles.”

Those comments pretty much set the stage for the story, which will see Kang looking to work with Ant-Man for his own nefarious plans. As you’ve seen in the trailer, Ant-Man and Kang’s working relationship doesn’t end up going very well.

I’m looking forward to this movie and I’m curious to see how this story plays out and how it will set up Kang’s big story in the MCU.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania officially kicks off Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in it “Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.” The movie also stars Kathryn Newton in the role of Cassie Lang, and Bill Murray.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is once again being directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay written by Jeff Loveness. The movie will be released on February 17, 2023.
