Kevin Feige Says DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE is The "Most Wholesome R-Rated Movie" Ever
Kevin Feige recently opened up about the R-rating of Deadpool & Wolverine calling it the “most wholesome R-rated movie anybody could ever see.”
The creative team behind the film went all out on this movie and Disney and Marvel supported the vision of the creative team so nothing was really compromised while developing the film.
It’s great to know that the team behind the movie were able to do what they wanted with all of the Deadpool jokes, and while the film is rated R, I guess it’s a family-style R-rating.
While speaking with Deadline, Feige was asked if Deadpool & Wolverine was the “beginning of an edgier era” for the MCU.
He responded: “I think we’ve been edgy in the past, but my favorite thing is that we span all types of genres and tones. I think it gets a lot of attention that this is our first R-rated movie, but it is the third R-rated Deadpool movie, so we wanted to stay true to what Ryan has built over those last couple of movies and we weren’t going to undo that.”
He continued: “I will say, Hugh and Ryan have talked about this, and I think people can tell from the trailer and from the press tour so far, yes, it’s R-rated, yes there’s some language and blood, but the film is incredibly emotional.”
He goes on to explain: “I keep calling it the most wholesome R-rated film that anybody can ever see. It really is a celebration of friendship and family and of found family. I don’t want to overdo it, but for all the R-rated raunchiness that gets attention, when people see the movie, it’s going to be about how heartfelt it is; in my opinion much more than the first two Deadpool films.
“That’s what I’m really excited about, once people get past the ‘F’ words and the R-rating, to see how sweet it is.”
The film takes place six years after the events of Deadpool 2. Wade has hung up his uniform, he's no longer dating Vanessa, and he’s working as a used car salesman.
While celebrating his birthday with his friends, agents of the Time Variance Authority pluck Wade out of his reality and bring him to meet their boss, Mr. Paradox, who informs Deadpool that there's a bigger fate in store for him.
This is the start of a grand multiverse time-jumping adventure with Wolverine as they find themselves facing off with the villain Cassandra Nova.
The confirmed cast for the movie also includes Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic as Vanessa and Colossus, Matthew Macfadyen as a TVA Agent, and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al.
They are joined by Brianna Hildebrand and Shioli Kutsuna, who will also return to the franchise as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s girlfriend Yukio. It was previously confirmed that Jennifer Garner will return as Elektra in the movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26th!
