LANTERNS Actress Confirms the Guardians of the Universe and Maybe the Sinestro Corps Will Appear

It looks like DC Studios’ Lanterns is bringing some major Green Lantern lore to the series including the Guardians of the Universe, and possibly the Sinestro Corps.

Poorna Jagannathan, who has a role in the series, may have let more slip than she intended while discussing her excitement for the project during an interview about her new show, Deli Boys.

"I couldn't have loved the writing for Green Lantern more. Like Deli Boys, the Green Lantern series is extraordinarily well written and my character is extraordinarily well-built.

“And also, the way I can describe all the characters. We have all the characters we know and love... the Lanterns, the Guardians, Sinestros, and that world is still intact and everyone is presented as heroes and villains at the same time. And that's what makes the writing so complex, layered and so wonderful."

The Guardians of the Universe, the ancient blue-skinned beings who created and oversee the Green Lantern Corps from their homeworld of Oa, were always a likely inclusion. But this seems to confirm that the series won’t just be grounded on Earth, so hopefully the story will jump into the cosmic realm of space.

Then there’s the mention of "Sinestros." It makes me think that Jagannathan is speaking in plural, hinting at the Sinestro Corps. But, maybe she simply referring to the villain himself, who we already know will be played by Ulrich Thomsen?

As for Jagannathan’s role, we only know her character is named Zoe and is rumored to be John Stewart’s love interest. With Lanterns shaping up to be a detective-style mystery with cosmic implications, it’s clear DC Studios is weaving something much bigger than just an Earthbound cop drama.

Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre star as Hal Jordan and John Stewart in the series. Showrunner and executive producer Chris Mundy talked about the show, saying:

“From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama – rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world-building – that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion.

"The goal is to create something that feels timeless and grounded without sacrificing the magic of the source material.”

The series follows “new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

Lanterns is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King. All three serve as executive producers along with James Hawes, who is also directing the first two episodes.
