LANTERNS Writer Tom King Shares Why Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre Are Perfect as Hal Jordan and John Stewart
DC Studios is currently developing its Green Lantern series Lanterns, with Chris Mundy (True Detective: Night Country) leading the charge as showrunner and executive producer. Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and comic book scribe Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow) are also writing the series.
Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre are set to star in the series as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and during a recent interview with CBM, King explained why those two actors are the perfect fit for these roles.
King said: "I mean, I would say I’m over the moon but that’s not far enough for a Lantern. I guess I’m over Oa? That’s pretty far. You should see these two together. They have amazing chemistry and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m not allowed to say anything except that I can say it’s awesome!"
"We’ve got the perfect cast. When you look at Kyle, you see someone who used to fly jetplanes and embodies Hal. When you look at Aaron, his heart, his soul, and his strength are so John Stewart. He’s so perfect. It’s going to be great."
The series will focus on new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire) has also officially been cast as a series regular. She will take on the role of Sheriff Kerry, “a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.”
When talking about the eight-episode series DC Studios co-Chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, said: “John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman.”
