Lewis Pullman Says AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Won’t Be a Cameo Parade: “Every Character Has Their Moment”

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday is massive. With heroes arriving from every corner of the MCU and beyond, fans have started wondering if the film might turn into a rapid-fire cameo showcase instead of a story where characters actually get room to breathe.

According to Lewis Pullman, who plays Bob Reynolds aka Sentry in the MCU, that concern can be put to rest. The actor recently talked about the upcoming Marvel Phase 6 event film and assured fans that the creative team has made sure the huge lineup still gives each character something meaningful to do.

Pullman, who is returning after his debut as Sentry in Thunderbolts*, spoke with Esquire about how the film handles its enormous roster of heroes. He explained that directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo approached the project with the intention of making sure no one fades into the background.

“Every character has their moment that builds the dimensions of them,” he said. “The Russo brothers did that so well. They do not want anyone just sitting in the background.

”They really took to heart the responsibility of having some of the best actors in the world all together. There's a lot of really exciting pair-ups that happen. A lot of fans will be really excited. It's so fun to dream about.

“What if A and B would work together? Would B and D would work together? You get to see a lot of those fantasies come into fruition.”

One of the biggest thrills of the Avengers movies has always been the unexpected character interactions, and it sounds like Avengers: Doomsday is leaning heavily into that idea. If Pullman’s comments are any indication, we’ll be seeing plenty of wild and fun team-ups between heroes who have never shared the screen before.

Even with four teaser trailers already released, Marvel is still keeping much of the film under wraps. A few major details have slipped out though, and there are lots and lots of rumors.

Chris Evans will return as Steve Rogers, and the legendary hero apparently now has a child. The Avengers will also be facing a huge new threat in Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, and fans are eager to see how the former Iron Man actor steps into the role of Marvel’s most iconic villain.

Characters from the Fox X-Men universe are set to appear, and Marvel is bringing together some wild combinations across its different franchises. The Fantastic Four will encounter Wakanda, while Chris Hemsworth’s Thor prepares for another battle on a cosmic scale.

And of course, that giant ensemble includes plenty of familiar MCU favorites like Anthony Mackie’s Captain America and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, along with Pullman’s Sentry and the rest of the Thunderbolts crew, and so many more.

If the Russos manage to balance all of those moving parts, Avengers: Doomsday could deliver the kind of large-scale Marvel event fans have been hoping for. It’s good to know that the film is aiming to give each hero a chance to shine and collide in ways fans have imagined for years.

We’ll find out how it all plays out when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18.
