Live-Action MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM Movie Reportedly Casts Singer Benson Boone

The long-awaited live-action Mobile Suit Gundam movie may have just found one of its stars. According to the latest edition of The InSneider, Legendary is reportedly eyeing singer Benson Boone for a role in the upcoming adaptation of the iconic mecha anime. The part is being kept under wraps, but if the deal goes through it would mark Boone’s big-screen debut.

Boone could be joining Sydney Sweeney, who was previously rumored to be involved with the project. While there’s still no word on who Sweeney might be playing, her casting has generated a lot of attention considering the impressive run of high-profile roles she’s had recently.

Legendary hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but it’s clear the studio is assembling a noteworthy lineup for its ambitious take on the beloved franchise.

The film is being directed by Jim Mickle, best known as the showrunner of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth. Mickle is also writing the script and producing through his Nightshade banner alongside Linda Moran. He stepped into the director’s chair after Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) was initially attached when Legendary first announced the project in 2021.

For longtime fans, Mobile Suit Gundam needs no introduction. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the anime first aired in 1979 and went on to become a cornerstone of the mecha genre. The story is set during the Universal Century, a futuristic era defined by a devastating war between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon, a space colony fighting for independence.

Zeon pilots towering humanoid war machines known as mobile suits to gain the upper hand, while the Federation develops its own prototype—the legendary RX-78-2 Gundam. At the heart of the series is Amuro Ray, a young boy who unexpectedly becomes the pilot of the Gundam after a Zeon attack on his colony.

It will be interesting to see how this movie turns out. I have high hopes for it because I want it to be awesome!
