Lucasfilm is Developing a New STAR WARS Series with X-MEN's Simon Kinberg
X-Men franchise writer and producer Simon Kinberg is developing a new Star Wars trilogy with Lucasfilm. He will write and produce the three films with studio chief Kathleen Kennedy.
What we know about the project so far is that take place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. However, “Lucasfilm has disputed the notion that Kingberg’s movies will continue the story that George Lucas began with 1977’s A New Hope and continued with eight sequels.”
So, I assume this new trilogy isn’t connected with the Rey Skywalker project that is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. That film was being written by Steven Knight, but he recently exited the project.
The report says that Kinberg’s trilogy is in early development, and it’s unclear when they’ll go into production. Hell, who knows if it will even ever go into production! This is the third or fourth trilogy that Lucasfilm has announced since Disney bought them.
Jon Favreau is currently directing the Star Wars film with The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is a continuation of the Disney+ series and that’s set to be released on May 22, 2026. There are also two more untitled Star Wars movies set for December 18, 2026 and December 17, 2027.
Lucasfilm has several other projects in various stages of development that will be coming from James Mangold, Taika Waititi, Rian Johnson, and Donald Glover.
This isn’t the first Star Wars project that Kinberg has worked on as he is the creator and writer of the animated series. He was also developing a Boba Fett movie at one point.
