LUKE CAGE Star and Showrunner Say a HEROES FOR HIRE Series is in The Air
Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) will reunite in the upcoming second season of Luke Cage. We've already seen a couple of photos of them and I like the fact that they will be spending a little more time together. They two characters have such a fun relationship in the comics and I've been hoping that they explore that relationship even further in Marvel's Netflix cinematic universe.
It would be so cool to see the two characters get a Heroes For Hire series. When Colter and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker were asked about the possibility of seeing this series happen in a recent interview, Coker said:
"It's something that's in the air. Internally at Marvel Television, everybody knows there's a part of that combination that is inevitable, particularly when you watch them together in the way that we did it. If feels right. It feels good. It feels like, 'I want to see more of this combination. Heroes for Hire is really not off the table.'"
Colter went on to talk about his relationship with Finn Jones behind the scenes saying:
"Me and Finn get along rather well, we're pretty cool. I think our characters play well off each other."
Iron Fist may not be my favorite character in these Marvel Netflix series' but I do like the dynamic of these two characters together. When asked if he's heard any talk of a Heroes for Hire Netflix spinoff, the actor said that that is "a question above my pay grade."
The actor goes on to explain why he likes the idea of these Marvel Netflix solo series' better than the big team-up stories, saying:
"It's always nice to see your favourites play together but the stakes to the game are not as high as when they play for their own individual teams."
He makes a good point here, but it sure is fun to see the characters come together to fight. It doesn't sound like Marvel plans on making another Defenders series, so I'm not sure if we'll see that all of these heroes together again anytime soon, but a Heroes For Hire series with Luke Cage and Iron Fist could work! What do you think?
Luke Cage will premiere on Netflix on June 22nd.
