MAN OF TOMORROW Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Confirmed and Who’s Rumored
James Gunn is gearing up for his next big DC Studios film, Man of Tomorrow, and while he insists it’s not Superman 2, it absolutely feels like the solid next chapter in the DCU’s story of the Man of Steel.
The movie arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027, and so far we know it will feature Superman and a War Suit-clad Lex Luthor. Beyond that, there’s a mix of confirmed appearances and exciting rumors that make this one of the most talked-about upcoming comic book movies.
Here’s every hero, villain, and potential cameo we know (and suspect) will show up in Man of Tomorrow.
David Corenswet as Superman: Confirmed
Gunn may be insisting that Man of Tomorrow isn’t Superman 2, but David Corenswet’s Clark Kent is absolutely the lead of this movie. Corenswet made his DCU debut earlier this year and is confirmed to return.
While fans expect him to pop up again in projects like Peacemaker Season 2 or Lanterns, odds are he’ll also appear in next year’s Supergirl before heading into his biggest battle yet.
Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor - Confirmed
Nicholas Hoult was great the role of Lex in Superman, but it looks like Gunn has more in mind than the usual hero-versus-villain setup. Promo art has teased that Superman and Lex may actually team up at some point in this story, though don’t worry, I iamgine they’ll still trade blows.
With Luthor suiting up in his War Suit, fans will finally get to see one of the most iconic comic book rivalries play out on the big screen in a fresh way.
Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl - Confirmed
Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl had only a small part in Superman, but she made a big impression. After another brief appearance in Peacemaker Season 2, she’s confirmed to spread her wings again in Man of Tomorrow.
Considering her ties to Maxwell Lord’s Justice Gang, it wouldn’t be surprising if Hawkgirl once again fights alongside Superman when Metropolis is under attack.
Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen - Confirmed
Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen had a pretty fun storyline in Superman, and his presence in the DCU isn’t going away. After sharing Gunn’s announcement for Man of Tomorrow, it looks like he’s back.
Reports say Gunn has big plans for Jimmy, including a possible spinoff series where he documents villains across the DCU. Hopefully, this means we’ll spend more time inside the Daily Planet.
Aaron Pierre as John Stewart - Rumored
There’s a strong chance Man of Tomorrow will feature a Green Lantern, and all signs point to Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. While Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan is expected to be a one-time Lanterns character, Stewart is rumored to be the long-term face of Earth’s Green Lantern Corps.
Pierre’s interaction with Gunn’s post raised speculation, and fans would love to see John Stewart make his theatrical debut here.
John Cena as Peacemaker - Rumored
John Cena’s Peacemaker has become a cornerstone character for Gunn, and the director has teased that Peacemaker Season 2 connects directly to Superman.
With that in mind, it’s possible Chris Smith shows up again in Man of Tomorrow, either continuing his rivalry with Superman or setting up the DCU’s first big villain. I think he will play a bigger role than expected in the DCU.
Jason Momoa as Lobo - Rumored
After hanging up his trident as Aquaman, Jason Momoa is finally getting to play his dream role with Lobo. He’ll first appear in Supergirl, but word is that he’ll also return in Man of Tomorrow.
If true, fans will finally get to see the brawl they’ve been waiting for, Superman versus the Main Man himself, the cosmic bounty hunter Lobo.
Milly Alcock as Supergirl - Rumored
Milly Alcock is set to headline next summer’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but she’s already made her DCU debut in Superman. With her ties to Krypton and her growing presence in Gunn’s new universe, it would only make sense for Kara to join her cousin in Man of Tomorrow.
Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane - Rumored
Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane stole the spotlight in Superman, and multiple reports say she’s back for Man of Tomorrow. Considering how much chemistry she had with Corenswet, it will be interesting to see how their relationship will continue to develop. Plus, more time in the Daily Planet newsroom sounds like a good time.
Brainiac - Rumored
So what could be big enough to make Superman and Lex Luthor team up? The name being thrown around is Brainiac. While far from confirmed, whispers suggest the alien supervillain could arrive to target Metropolis.
For Supergirl, this would hit even closer to home since Brainiac is known for stealing the Kryptonian city of Kandor. If Brainiac really is the villain, it sets the stage for an epic showdown and possibly the most dangerous DCU threat yet.
Interestingly, I haven’t seen any news or rumors yet about the possible inclusion of Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Guy Gardner or Edi Gathegi's Mr. Terrific. But it would make sense to see the rest of the Justice Gang back in action.
Man of Tomorrow is shaping up to be something pretty cool, with a confirmed lineup of heroes and villains and a slew of rumored appearances, it looks like Gunn is setting the stage for a massive chapter in the DCU.
Fans are in for something special when this movie hits theaters in 2027.
