MAN OF TOMORROW Kicks Off Filming as David Corenswet Says It Explores What It's Like “Saving The World With Your Sworn Enemy”

The next chapter of DC’s cinematic universe is starting to take shape, and things are about to get interesting for the Man of Steel. Man of Tomorrow is officially gearing up to roll cameras, and along with that update comes a pretty intriguing tease about the story’s central conflict.

If you thought Superman and Lex Luthor couldn’t get any more complicated, this sequel is about to push that dynamic into some wild territory.

At CinemaCon, while a lot of attention was aimed at other DC projects, Peter Safran dropped a key update that fans have been waiting for. He confirmed that “cameras roll next week on Man of Tomorrow,” signaling that production is finally kicking into gear on the highly anticipated sequel to 2025’s Superman.

David Corenswet returns as Clark Kent, stepping back into the cape alongside Nicholas Hoult, who reprises his role as Lex Luthor. But this time, the story isn’t just hero versus villain. It’s something way messier.

During a video appearance tied to the presentation, Corenswet teased the core tension driving the film, saying it explores what it’s like “saving the world with your sworn enemy,” while Hoult added that the movie introduces a “new villain and an unlikely alliance.”

This is the kind of story flips the classic Superman-Luthor dynamic on its head in a way that feels fresh and unpredictable.

The threat forcing this uneasy partnership is none other than Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger. That’s a villain fans have been waiting to see done right on the big screen, and throwing him into a story where Superman has to rely on Luthor could create some seriously tense moments. Trust between those two isn’t exactly easy to come by, and that friction is likely where a lot of the drama will live.

As if that wasn’t enough, the cast is continuing to grow. Adria Arjona, known for her work in Andor, has joined the film as Maxima.

In DC Comics lore, Maxima is an alien queen who travels to Earth in search of a worthy partner, often setting her sights on Superman. How that storyline fits into this version of the DC Universe hasn’t been revealed yet, but it adds another layer of unpredictability to the mix.

Director James Gunn also shared his excitement about finally being able to talk about the project as it moves deeper into production, which suggests more reveals are coming sooner rather than later.

With filming about to begin and a release date locked in for July 9, 2027, Man of Tomorrow is shaping up to be a very different kind of Superman story, and I’m excited to see it!
