MAN OF TOMORROW Producer Says Upcoming Superman Sequel Is “Going to Be Epic”

The DC Universe is still in the process of laying its foundation, but Man of Tomorrow will be one of the franchise’s most massive undertakings. While fans are getting ready for Supergirl this week, new details have emerged about Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming sequel to Superman, and DC Studios is aiming high.

During the world premiere of Supergirl in New York City, Lars Winther, DC Studios’ EVP of Physical Production, offered an exciting update on the progress of the film. According to Winther, production is moving along nicely, with filming already reaching the halfway mark.

Man of Tomorrow officially began principal photography on April 20, 2026, at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, and cameras will continue rolling through mid-2026 across Georgia, Ohio, and the United Kingdom.

One of the biggest takeaways from Winther’s comments is just how important Supergirl will be to the story. Fans already knew that Milly Alcock would appear in the sequel alongside David Corenswet’s Superman, but it sounds like her role is much larger than a simple cameo.

“Supergirl’s in it a lot,” Winther revealed. He went on to say he upcoming Supergirl movie won’t just introduce audiences to Alcock’s version of the character, it will also help establish her relationship with Superman before the events of Man of Tomorrow.

“You see their dynamic, which I think is cool,” Winther said. Exploring the bond between Clark Kent and Kara Zor-El has always been one of the more interesting aspects of Superman lore, and it sounds like the sequel plans to lean into that family connection.

Of course, every great Superman story needs a formidable villain, and this time the heroes are facing one of the most dangerous threats in DC Comics history.

Winther also discussed Brainiac, who will be played by Lars Eidinger, and hinted that audiences should prepare for something much bigger than what Superman has encountered so far in the DCU.

According to Winther, Brainiac represents “a whole new level of villain” for Superman and his allies. Brainiac has long been one of Superman’s most iconic enemies, a cold and calculating force whose intelligence and power can challenge entire worlds.

Winther also made it clear that DC Studios is continuing to expand the Superman family across multiple interconnected projects, with Supergirl serving as a direct bridge into the events of Man of Tomorrow.

“The Man of Tomorrow is going to be epic,” Winther declared. The film reunites DC Studios co-head James Gunn, who once again writes and directs, while Nicholas Hoult returns as Lex Luthor. Fans can also expect to see Rachel Brosnahan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Aaron Pierre reprise their established DCU roles.

With Superman, Supergirl, Lex Luthor, and Brainiac all sharing the spotlight, Man of Tomorrow is going to be a major milestone for the DCU, and it coming in July 2027.
