Margot Robbie Says There Have Been Talks About a BARBIE Movie Sequel

We are still about a month away from the release of Academy Award-winning director Greta Gerwig’s live-action take on the classic toy character Barbie. Gerwig wrote the script for the film with Noah Baumbach, and it is being called something of a feminist manifesto. Star Ryan Gosling called it “the best script I’ve ever read.

With that kind of hype, and the talent involved in this movie, it’s no surprise that there have been talks already about a possible sequel in its future.

In a recent interview with Time, the film’s star, Margot Robbie, who plays the main Barbie in the film, was asked about the possibility of a sequel, and she confirmed that she’s been involved in conversations, but nothing is set. “It could go a million different directions from this point,” she says. “But I think you fall into a bit of a trap if you try and set up a first movie whilst also planning for sequels.”

It’s smart that even though the studio is putting on the pressure to start talking about a sequel, the filmmakers are focused on the success of the first film. The story has to be solid for anyone to care about the first movie, and it looks like Barbie is going to make its mark.

Barbie is set to hit theaters on July 21st.
