Marvel CCO Says THE PUNISHER Season 2 is "Crazy" and "Exactly What Fans Want"
For those of you who are excited about The Punisher Season 2, Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada is looking to get fans even more hyped for what is coming. While talking to CB in a recent interview, Quesada said:
"Last year, this time, I was going around telling people like you [Punisher is] the best show we may have done. I think there were three fans on the floor, they were like, ‘Come on, man.’ I’m like, ‘If you don’t think it’s the best show that we’ve done and if [Jon] Bernthal is not Frank Castle, I will pay your Netflix subscription for a year.’ Never collected. Thank God."
He went on to say that the thing he's most excited about regarding the upcoming season is the villain, and then goes on to say that it's going to be exactly what fans want:
"It is just crazy stuff. Crazy stuff. It’s going to be exactly what fans want. And Bernthal, Bernthal is Bernthal, man. He’s a force of nature, the dude."
I thought the first season of The Punisher was great and I can't wait to see what journey awaits him. A couple months ago some set footage surfaced of Ben Barnes in the role of the villain Billy Russo a.k.a. Jigsaw as he gets in a firefight with Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle.
We don't have any solid confirmation of the story that Season 2 will tell, but we've heard rumors that it might adapt Garth Ennis' The Slavers story arc. If you're not familiar with that story, here is a rundown:
The Punisher is about to murder a gangster when woman opens fire on him wounding him. The Woman is forced to retreat into an alley that turns out to be a dead end. The Punisher kills the gangster he was their to murder and follows the woman and the men chasing her into the alley. Frank Castle kills the men and is about to leave when the woman begging for his help screams they killed her baby. Frank takes her back to his base where she passed out following him and listens to her story. The woman named Viorica tells Frank that she was forced into prostitution and kept by slavers living in New York City and that after she escaped they tried to track her down and murdered her child. The Punisher then turns all of his attention to the forced prostitution ring and sets out to destroy it.
As for the cast, Josh Stewart will be taking on the role of John Pilgrim, "a man whose calm exterior belies a ruthless interior. Despite having left behind a life of violence, circumstances will force him to use his old skills and bring him into Frank Castle’s world." Floriana Lima will play Krista Dumont, "a smart, compassionate, and driven psychotherapist for military veterans." Giorgia Whigham will play Amy Bendix, "a street-smart grifter with a mysterious past."
Then there's Corbin Bernsen who is set to play Anderson Schultz, "an extremely wealthy man who’s grown accustomed to getting his way. His power and legacy are of prime importance, and he’ll implement less-than-legal means to further those ends." Annette O’Toole will be taking on the role of the conniving Eliza Schultz, "Anderson’s equally manipulative wife."
Amber Rose Revah and Jason R. Moore are also set to return to the series.
